Good, I think your listeners will gain some valuable tools from this discussion. You mentioned “peace of mind” and and the word “tranquility” comes to mind as to the goal we are seeking with Stoicism. So it is not what happens to us but how we react to the event that preserves our tranquility. Thus anger, seeking praise, or worry about things outside our control, are a waste of time. Yes we get these emotions but Stoicism gives us the tools to quickly escape and get back to tranquility.
One aspect of Stoicism you did not mention was how to handle people who annoy us or who do “bad things”. If they are ignorant, teach them. If this is ineffective know that there have always been such people and there will always be such. Stoicism teaches ” if you live 40 years you will have seen everything you would if you lived a thousand years”.
The book by William B. Irvine is ” A Guide To The Good Life”. This is very readable, a great introduction to Stoicism, and has a section on how to apply it to our lives today.
